We get it: writing is tough — but we’re here to help!

First, please register for a MyUCSC Writing Center account. Once registered, you should have access to the full summer schedule for individual and group tutoring appointments. Unless directed by your Professor, you will need to login to this platform to access your tutor and the resources they have available for you via the site.

At the Writing Center we try to prioritize community-building and the cultivation of a supportive environment in everything we do, and we hope you will too by following these few guidelines:

  1. Our tutors are trained to be live resources to support your writing (whether this be through synchronous or asynchronous sessions); they aren’t trained to edit or write materials on your behalf — plus, they don’t get paid nearly enough and it’s rather unethical!
  2. Need to reschedule? We totally understand, but please please please try your best to do so as soon as you can. Please send an email directly to your tutor if the cancellation is less than 24 hours.
  3. At UC Santa Cruz we are pretty lucky that many of our Tutors have established relationships with Writing Program Faculty; however, this doesn’t necessarily mean they know how to get an A or even how to answer a writing prompt. So, it’s important that you bring relevant course context to your sessions (after all: nobody wants to feel left out!).
  4. Our Writing Centers are still new, so we need your help making them better. If you have questions, concerns, or thoughts about the Centers, please feel free to email Faculty Director Anthony Breakspear at abreaksp@ucsc.edu.
